King himself allocates his mornings to new compositions, afternoons to naps and letters, and evenings for reading, family, revisions, and Red Sox games. He describes, for example, how Anthony Trollope wrote for 2.5 hours every morning before he left for full time work. King is talking about four to six hours of reading and writing every single day. While bad writers are unlikely to become authors through learning and practice alone, every writer can improve their craft with plenty of reading, writing and hard work.
